Indiana Flood Victims May Qualify for Up to $1,000 in Housing Assistance

If your home was affected by the recent severe storms and flooding in Indiana, financial assistance may be available to help with housing-related expenses.

The MIBOR REALTOR® Association and Indiana Association of REALTORS® have secured an initial $500,000 in relief funding from the REALTORS® Relief Foundation to assist Indiana residents impacted by severe weather that occurred August 11–18, 2026.

Eligible homeowners and renters may be able to receive up to $1,000 per household in housing-related assistance.

Who Can Apply?

The relief program is designed to help qualifying Indiana residents whose primary residence sustained physical storm damage or who were displaced because of the storms.

You may qualify if you:

  • Own your primary residence and it sustained physical storm damage.
  • Own your primary residence without a mortgage and the home sustained physical damage.
  • Were displaced from your primary residence and entered into a new lease.
  • Were displaced from your home and had to stay in a hotel or Airbnb.

Importantly, this assistance is not limited to REALTORS® or REALTOR® clients. It is intended for qualifying Indiana residents affected by the disaster.

What Can the Grant Be Used For?

Qualified applicants may receive assistance toward eligible housing expenses, including:

  • A monthly mortgage payment for a damaged primary residence.
  • Rental costs resulting from displacement.
  • Hotel or Airbnb expenses resulting from displacement.

Assistance is limited to a maximum of $1,000 per household.

What Isn't Covered?

The program is specifically intended to provide housing relief related to physical damage to a primary residence.

According to MIBOR, expenses that generally do not qualify include:

  • Damage limited to detached structures, such as sheds, barns or unattached garages.
  • Food spoilage or other expenses caused only by a power outage.
  • Damaged appliances, clothing or equipment.
  • Vehicle-related expenses.
  • Mileage.
  • Second mortgages or home-equity loans.

If you experienced a power outage but your primary residence did not sustain physical damage, you would not qualify under the current program guidelines.

What Documents Will You Need?

The documentation required will depend on your individual situation.

Homeowners with a mortgage will generally need:

  • Photo ID.
  • Mortgage statement.
  • Proof of storm damage.

Homeowners without a mortgage will generally need:

  • Photo ID.
  • Property-tax record or deed.
  • Proof of storm damage.

Residents who were displaced may need:

  • Photo ID.
  • Proof of damage.
  • A new lease agreement or paid hotel/Airbnb receipt.

Photos, insurance estimates, written claims and repair estimates may also be used as proof of damage.

Don't Wait to Apply

Funding is being distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and is only available while funds remain.

The current application deadline is November 11, 2026, but available funds could be exhausted before that date.

MIBOR states that complete applications are generally expected to be processed within three to five business days.
